Helping the River- Adventure Fitness and all its components would be nothing if we did not have our water ways.
Many people do not know that our Deschutes river & its wild life are very sick, due to poor water management.
Once, before the 1940’s, we had up to 4,000 fish per mile on the Upper Deschutes! Now some areas have 30 fish per mile.
At Adventure Fitness, we believe in being responsible for our impact on this earth. We believe everyone has gifts & talents to be used to improve our world.
I believe water is a gift & it has been an ever present life force for me. I grew up at the base of the Rocky mountains with a natural river flowing through our back yard. As a young girl, I knew the seasons by the sound of the river. After High School I took off to Alaska to learn to river guide & have not stopped guiding since, even through pregnancies. I met my husband guiding on the Arkansas river in Colorado, he proposed to me on the river & we were married in Kathmandu, Nepal while there running rivers. We were married in our Chaco’s. We have raised our kids on the river from their creation to their baptism. Even our little dog runs rapids on our SUP! I could never, ever give back to the river all it has given to me & my family. But I will try!
The Deschutes river is one of the most stable flowing rivers in the world. We had native fish only found here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest from Bull trout to many species of Salmon. We have so many demands being put on our beautiful Deschutes river, that the river is suffering and literally dying.
We now have the technology to give farmers the water they need & run the river at a healthy flow that will start to restore it.
Everyone knows that a “a river running through it” is the one of the greatest assets any city could ever have from economy to quality of life. As Lisa Seales from Oregon Landwatch states; “It is not Environment vs. Economy! With out the environment, we have no economy!”
I work closely with two local organizations who are working very hard to restore the health of our Deschutes river & all of its wild life. Coalition For The Deschutes and Central Oregon Landwatch.
If you play, work, or have any part of our Deschutes river, please give back to this incredible resource. Spread the word. Educate others. Take action!
The river needs us, and we need the river!!! Please be a part of this much needed change.
