SUP racing started in Central Oregon in 2008. Before SUP came on the scene, we raced OC1’s, OC6, surf skis, kayaks & canoes for decades at races like the Odell lake Pioneer Cup, a down wind race started over 30 years ago.
We have a community of talented water athletes from Outrigger, to white water kayakers, SUP to ocean surf athletes. The Triple Crown series is our namesake with flat water SUP races held on the Deschutes river, Elk Lake & Odell lake for down winders. The Bend Paddleboard Union was created in 2013 by a variety of local paddle athletes to promote paddle sports racing from SUP, to prone paddling, surf ski’s to OC1’s.
Jen Kjellesvik’s passion & position as an OG of the Bend Paddlboard Union is to grow youth paddle sports racing!
Jen started racing 6-man Outrigger canoes in 2003 with our local Bend Oregon Outrigger club. A former white water raft racer, river guide, kayaker & water sports coach, when Jen first saw a SUP paddler while on the river at Outrigger practice in 2007, she knew that SUP was her next sport! Jen first became a sponsored SUP racer for Yolo boards & Kialoa paddles in 2009. The SUP paddle is the exact shape of an Outrigger paddle. The reach, the catch & the release are all vital paddle techniques to increase craft speed & can be improved on for a life time! Always learning, we know that ALL paddle sports compliment each other to create an incredible well rounded paddle athlete.
Jen teams up with other SUP paddle racers to give a full experience for those interested in SUP racing. Our Central Oregon SUP races are the perfect SUP racing venue from kids to adults, with that true Aloha spirit, where everyone is welcome & everyone is stoked to paddle with you! The Bend Paddleboard Union works hard every year to give racers the best paddling experience & grow our sports. We LOVE our local paddle race community!!
